On this Photo-tour you will explore Napier, Arniston, Elim, Malgas, Witsand, Barrydale, Grootvadersbosch, Suurbrak, Swellendam, Greyton and the Hemel-en-aarde Valley! You will be taking in the beauty and incredible history of the area whilst looking for your perfect shot!

This Photo-Tour takes place during The Whale Season and you are bound to see the famous Southern Right Whales on the coast and have the optional extra of going on a Whale Watching Boat.

There are a minimum of four and maximum of ten people per photographer on this tour so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment. The minimum number has been reached so the tour is going ahead!

Non Photographers are welcome to join at the same price as photographers.

Early booking is advisable as this tour takes place over a public holiday – Woman’s Day.

Our Photographers:

Peter Hassall (National President of SA Pro-Photographers with 35 years experience) and Leanne Dryburgh (Western Cape Manager of SA Pro-Photographers with 27 years experience) from thephotowalkers.com are the photographers selected for this tour. Once the bookings reach 10 people – the second photographer will join.

Photographic Skills:

Photographers of all skills level are welcome. Come Join Us!

Itinerary:

A detailed itinerary will be emailed through to all confirmed bookings.

You will explore Napier, Arniston, Elim, Malgas, Witsand, Barrydale, Grootvadersbosch, Suurbrak, Swellendam, Greyton and the Hemel-en-aarde Valley – with Overnight stays in Arniston, Barrydale and Greyton.

  • Exposure and how to get it right in Manual Mode
  • Shutter Speed on workshops on water
  • Architecture in the historical fishing village of Arniston and the village of Suurbrak
  • Depth of field workshops on the fishingboats and Fynbos
  • Macro on the small discoveries
  • The importance of good composition using your foreground, middle ground and background overlooking the Breede River
  • Environmental Portraiture
  • How to handle light and natural elements such as reflections while crossing ‘Die Pont”
  • Long shadows and parallel lines in Indigenous Forests

Includes:

Accredited South African Professional Photographers who will be on hand through out the weekend to assist you – no matter what skill level you are. A second Professional Photographer will join the tour once 10 people have confirmed.

Excludes:

Camera Gear, Accommodation, Meals, Transport, Entrance Fees and any expenses of a personal nature.

Accommodation:

The Photographer/s stay in 3-Star accommodation with en-suite bathrooms. Upon confirmation, you will receive the details of their accommodation so that you can secure your own accommodation at the same place as theirs or close by in the accommodation of your choice. If you would like thephotowalkers.com to book your accommodation – a booking fee of R500 is charged.

Transport:

thephotowalkers.com are offering shared transport from Hermanus. Its by far the nicest way to do the tours and its good fun too! The shared transport will depart at 11h30 on 9 August and return at roughly 14h00 on the 12th of August. There is an optional extra of a Whale Boat trip at 15h00 – ending at around 17h30.

You are welcome to self drive.

Should you require airport transfers between CT International Airport en route — let us know when you fill out the booking form above. We will gladly assist you with logistics such as times and flight details of other photowalkers.

The shared transport cost through-out the tour is additional and divided by the number of people that have booked. We calculate the cost of this a week before departure once everyone has confirmed and let everyone know. The cost is shared between the number of people using the service.

Meeting Point and Ending Point for those Self-Driving:

Meet at 12h30 in Napier on 9 August for the first bit of ‘Street Photography’.

The Photo-Tour will end in Hermanus at 14h00 on the 12th of August.

Price and Payment Policy:

Please fill out the form under the button at the top of the page – ‘ENQUIRIES AND BOOKINGS’.

There are drop-downs that prompt you to tell us if you would like to share transport and what your accommodation requirements are. Once we have received this information from you, we will send you a quote.

A deposit of R2500.00 is required to secure you place and the balance is payable 2 weeks before departure. There is limited space so early booking is advisable. (R1500 deposit only if you are booking during the Mid-May Madness Special!)

A 10% discount is offered on the Photography Instruction to our existing clients, our past and present 52-Week Challengers and Registered Camera Club Members (PSSA – please supply details). This will reflect on your quote.  This discount does not apply while a promotional offer is running.

What to Bring:

In order to achieve the most from the Accredited South African Professional Photographer, a camera body with a manual mode function is recommended. However, all makes of cameras are welcome.

A tripod is essential (in the event that you do not own a tripod you are welcome to hire one from thephotowalkers.com at a cost of R200.00 for the duration of the tour). Pre-booking is essential.

Head torches for the evenings.

What to Wear:

Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended. Wind breakers come in handy for photographing at dusk and dawn and pockets are useful. thephotowalkers.com will communicate with you closer to the date of departure should there any be any inclement weather expected that would encourage additional items of clothing that are not typical.

Fitness:

A certain level of fitness is required to enable you to transport your own camera bag, tripod and accessories. Reasonably short to medium distances are covered while photowalking. If during ‘free time’ you would like to partake in other adventures, additional fitness may be required.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations within 1 month of the tour: No refund will be issued.

Cancellations more than 1 month before the tour: 50% refund will be issued on any monies paid to date – less any costs incurred.

In the event that thephotowalkers.com has to cancel the tour for any reason what-so-ever, a full refund will be issued immediately.
