Clarens and the Eastern Freestate (4 – 7 April 2019)

On this Photo-tour you will explore Clarens, Rosendal, Ficksburg and Fouriersburg while travelling through the magnificent Eastern Freestate in Autumn as the Poplars turn yellow against the electric blue sky – all while improving your photographic skills!

There are a minimum of four and maximum of ten people per photographer on this tour so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment.


Non photographers are welcome at the same price as photographers.

Photographic Highlights include:

  • Landscapes along the back roads
  • Exposure and how to balance the light in Manual Mode
  • Shutter Speed amongst the grasses and waterfalls
  • Low light photography and ‘painting with light’
  • Architecture in a deserted town that has a population of less than 50 people

Photographic Skills:

We have created fixed workshops during the tour to ensure that we cover as many aspects of photography as possible. These are worked around the best light, travel times, check in times and meal times.

The tour does also allow for free time as the mornings are early as the nights are long.


Accommodation can be arranged at the same place that the photographers are staying.

  • R950 per person per night sharing a room including three meals.
  • R1250 per person for the single supplement including three meals.If you are a single and don’t mind sharing a room with another client – please let us know on the check out page.

You are welcome to book your own accommodation at a hotel / campsite etc and meet the group for the Educational Workshops.


  • are offering shared transport from Johannesburg. Its by far the nicest way to do the tours and its good fun too!
  • The transport will depart from JHB at 09h30 on the 4th of April. You will need to Uber/be dropped off at the meeting point in Westcliff as there is no parking available at the departure point. You will also need to be collected from there when we return at roughly 15h30 on the 7th of April.

The transport cost through-out the tour is additional and divided by the number of people that have booked. We calculate the cost of this a week before departure once everyone has confirmed and let everyone know. The cost is shared between the number of people using the service.

You are welcome to self drive.

Meeting and Ending Point for those self-driving:

Meet at 15h30 in Clarens on Thursday 4 April 2019 for the first workshop – once you have checked in.

Depart from Clarens at 12h00 on Sunday 7 April 2019 and return to Johannesburg around 15h30.

Price and Payment Policy:

There are drop-downs that prompt you to tell us if you would like to share transport and what your accommodation requirements are. Once we have received this information from you, we will send you a quote.

A deposit of R2500.00 is required to secure you place and the balance is payable 2 weeks before departure. (15 March 2019). There is limited space so early booking is advisable.

A 10% discount is offered on the Photography Instruction to our existing clients, our past and present 52-Week Challengers and Registered Camera Club Members (PSSA – please supply details). This will reflect on your quote.

Accredited South African Professional Photographers who will be on hand through out the weekend to assist you – no matter what skill level you are.


Camera Gear, Accommodation, Meals, Transport, Entrance Fees and any expenses of a personal nature.

What to Bring:

In order to achieve the most from the Accredited South African Professional Photographer, a camera body with a manual mode function is recommended. However, all makes of cameras are welcome.

A tripod is essential (in the event that you do not own a tripod you are welcome to hire one from at a cost of R200.00 for the duration of the tour). Pre-booking is essential.

Head torches for the evenings.

What to Wear:

Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended. Wind breakers come in handy for photographing at dusk and dawn and pockets are useful. will communicate with you closer to the date of departure should there any be any inclement weather expected that would encourage additional items of clothing that are not typical.


A certain level of fitness is required to enable you to transport your own camera bag, tripod and accessories. Reasonably short to medium distances are covered while photowalking. If during ‘free time’ you would like to partake in other adventures, additional fitness may be required.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations within 1 month of the tour: No refund will be issued.

Cancellations more than 1 month before the tour: 50% refund will be issued on any monies paid to date – less any costs incurred.

In the event that has to cancel the tour for any reason what-so-ever, a full refund will be issued immediately.
