A kaleidoscope of Culture, Colour, Beauty and Photography in India.




We’ll explore New Dheli – the capital of Modern India, Udaipur  – the romantic lake city surrounded by magnificent white palaces, Jodhpur – the Blue City, The Thar Desert – all while gaining immense knowledge of the area as well as improving your photographic skills.

Peter Hassall (National President of SA Pro-Photographers with 35 years experience) and Leanne Dryburgh (Western Cape Manager of SA Pro-Photographers with 27 years experience) from will be teaching photography for this duration of this photo-tour. The types of photography you will be learning about include: food, architecture, portraits, landscapes,macro, time-lapse, night skies, close up, fashion, street, people, transport, fashion and so much more. This is a ‘Colourful and interesting Feast of Photography!’

Our  Guide in India:

Ishvara Dhyan is South African yet has traveled to India over 20 times and is fluent in Hindi. He is deeply knowledgeable about the area, food, fabrics, history, buildings and the culture. His business, Ancient Secrets, has been running for many years and he specialises in Cultural Tours through the Inner City of Johannesburg. and Ancient Secrets teamed up in 2017 and offer a wonderful combination of photography and culture.


Monday 22 October: Day one : New Delhi

Arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, meet and greet by the tour guide and transfer to your hotel. Lunch on own if you are there.  Afternoon to relax and recover from any jet lag, or for those that are interested, the guide will do an informal walk to some favourite Delhi sites. Followed by a  2-hour photography workshop by Leanne Dryburgh and Peter Hassall.

In the evening we will have a traditional Indian dinner and we will discuss the program ahead.

Tuesday 23 October:

Breakfast at the hotel followed by an outing to Humayan’s Tomb Gardens followed by a day in New Delhi exploring the city and practicing your street and portrait photography. Dinner back at the hotel.

Wednesday 24 October:

Our train departs at 06h00 and is the quickest route to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal “ a pearl on the cheek of time itself “….the most popular attraction in India. Breakfast will be served on the train. Upon arrival we head straight for the Taj Mahal before the crowds arrive. Lunch in the area at Zorba the Buddha followed by exploring the Agra Red Fort, the residence of Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal for his beloved wife Mumtaj. Returning from Agra on the Tirukkaral Express at 15h15 we should be back in Delhi by 18h00 for drinks and dinner.

Thursday 25 October:

An early morning Macro Workshop followed by a late breakfast, check out and a mid- morning flight to Udaipur. Check in at a hotel overlooking Lake Pichola. Afternoon at your leisure to explore the town. In the late afternoon, a sunset cruise to Jag Mandir Island for photographs of the setting sun against the best views of Udaipur.  Back to the hotel for dinner.

Friday 26 October:

After breakfast a visit to the City Palace built in 1559 by the Sun King, Udai Singh, followed by lunch on your own at any of the many lakeside restaurants. During the afternoon we will explore the Bara Bazaar to photograph street scenes and it is also an opportunity to shop for antiques. Dinner at Hotel followed by a night-time photography course.

Saturday 27 October:

An early morning workshop followed by breakfast at hotel and then feedback on your images with an intense lesson at the Hotel – pushing you to the next level. A break of shopping (or enjoying a cold beer with your feet up!) and enjoy the magnificent “Venice of India” on your own.

In the late afternoon a drive to the abandoned Monsoon Palace and do a 2-hour workshop on composition at the highest point in Udaipur helping you to capture some remarkable photos of the city.

Sunday 28 October:

An early breakfast followed by a journey on our private bus which will take the entire day to do the usual 4-hour journey. Our intension is to stop along the way spontaneously to photograph remote villages and anything that takes our fancy, as we travel through the Thar Desert. We will also stop in the Holy towns of Nathdwara and Pali to photograph the pilgrims.

Monday 29 October:

After breakfast we will visit city fortress of Meranghar overlooking the “Blue City” of Jodhpur. This is one of India’s greatest fortress complexes built in 1460 by Rao Jodha. Lunch en-route followed by a late afternoon visit to the Umaid Bhawan Palace, one of India’s most recent palaces completed in 1943. This Art Deco palace is one of the world’s largest private residences.

Tuesday 30 October:

After breakfast we will explore the ancient “ Blue City “ of Jodhpur. One of the most photogenic places in India. Small alleyways, markets, street scenes, doorways, temples, holy cows and other interesting scenes. The afternoon is for shopping and relaxing alone.

Wednesday 31 October:

Our last day in India.

We fly back to New Delhi in the morning and spend the afternoon relaxing before your flights.


We have found that everyone has their own Accommodation needs and therefore we do not include it.

Accommodation is additional to the tour price and we can book it for you for an Accommodation Booking Fee of R1000.00 per person.  We will book you where the photographers and the rest of the group are staying.

There is the option of  basic accommodation – or more comfortable 3-Star en-suite accommodation with breakfast served – or top of the pops! Its up to you. Prices are based on estimates* – the actual price is dependant on availability at the time of your booking. Our booking team will do their best to find the most suitable accommodation for you – at the most suitable price.

  • The estimated* price over the entire tour in basic accommodation per room per night is: R700.00
  • The estimated* price over the entire tour in middle of the range accommodation per room per night is: R1300.00
  • The estimated* price over the entire tour in top of the pops accommodation per room per night is: R3500.00

All of the above options for accommodation are in the Drop Downs when you fill out the “Booking and Enquiry” form at the top of the page. Once you have secured your place on the tour we will book your accommodation for you. You are welcome to book our own if you prefer – as per the itinerary above.

Cost of the Tour:  

USD 2750 per person.

If the has quoted or invoiced in ZAR, they reserve the right to change this price when the exchange rate fluctuates.

This includes:

  • Two Accredited SA Pro-Photographers to guide and teach you
  • Ishvara’s Tour Guiding
  • Permit fees for cameras to various sites in India
  • Airport transfers in South Africa to and from CT International and OR Tambo International Airports (within reason)
  • Airport transfers in India
  • Express train to and from Agra
  • Domestic flight between New Delhi and Udaipur
  • Domestic flight between Jodhpur and New Delhi
  • Bus trip between Udaipur and Jodhpur

This excludes:

  • Flights to and from New Delhi in India (see ‘Meeting Point’* below)
  • Visas and travel insurance
  • Entrance fee to Humayan’s Tomb Gardens
  • Meals and refreshments (breakfast is served at most hotels and food in India is very reasonable).
  • Accommodation (see ‘Accommodation’ **)
  • Local taxis to and from hotels in each city.
  • Gratuities.

Meeting Point:*

Upon your booking confirmation, we will send recommended flights to and from OR Tambo and CT International Airports. These will give you the same or very similar arrival and departure times as the rest of the group which makes airport transfers easy. Should you prefer to travel on your own and meet in India,  we will provide you with the meeting time and place. Please email with your preference and we will send the finer details through to you.

Ending Point:

The same applies to the meeting point – just in reverse.

Payment Terms:

The Cost of the tour is $2750.00 per person.

50%  is payable by no later than 30 June and remainder of the balance  is payable in full by no later than 30 September 2018.

What to Bring for Photography:

In order to achieve the most from the Accredited South African Professional Photographer, a camera body with a manual mode function is recommended. However, all makes of cameras are welcome. Head torches for the evenings.

“Sensible” clothing to bring:

Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended. Cool cotton clothing.

Photographic Skills:

None! Photographers of all skills level are welcome. Come Join Us!


A certain level of fitness is required to enable you to transport your own camera bag, tripod and accessories. Reasonably short to medium distances are covered while photowalking. If during ‘free time’ you would like to partake in other adventures, additional fitness may be required.

Should you suffer from any chronic medical conditions, we recommend that you get a full medical clearance before committing to this Tour.

Visas and Passports:

All visitors must have a passport that is valid for at least six months.

Please check if you require a Visa.

(Free for South African citizens. Visas take 3 working days to process in Johannesburg. No vaccinations necessary.)

Duty Free Allowance:

  1. Alcoholic liquors or wines up to 2 litres.
  2. 200 Cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams tobacco.

Cancellations and refunds:

Due to the logistics of the bookings the Accommodation Booking Fee is non-refundable.

Deposits are refunded only if cancellation is received in writing by 30 April 2018, less any costs incurred.

A 20% refund of the monies paid will be issued between 30 April 2018 and 20 June 2018 – less any costs incurred.

No refunds made for any cancellation after 1 June 2018.


Although every possible care is taken to safeguard you and your property, no company involved in this Tour accepts responsibility for any accident, injury, illness or death incurred during or arising from any tour, or loss or damage to clients property during a tour. We strongly advise you take out insurance for yourself and your property before the start of the tour.

No company involved will be held responsible for any expenses or loss of Safari days resulting from changes in flight schedules, delays or loss of baggage by international air carriers or local air charter companies.
