Magoebaskloof (21-24 September 2018)

A Light-stalking, beauty catching, adventure-seeking Educational Photo-Tour over the Spring Festival Weekend in Magoeskloof!

On this Educational Photo-tour you will explore the entire area surrounding Magoebaskloof and all that it has to offer. We will visit stalls in village green, the orchid show at the Spring Festival, Azaleas in full bloom, Cheerio Gardens, waterfalls, manicured gardens, a cemetery, pine and indigenous and pine forests, tree-lined gravel roads and many birds!

There are a minimum of four and maximum of ten people per photographer on this tour so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment. We have reached the minimum number and the tour is therefore confirmed.

Dates:  21-24 September 2018.

As this falls over a long weekend, early booking is advisable.

Non Photographers are welcome at the same price as photographers.


21 September:

If you are making use of the shared transport option we will provide you with an address in Johannesburg to meet the vehicle at 09h30. From there we will drive straight to Magoebaskloof where we will have a light lunch on our own, check in and meet for a workshop at The Magoebaskloof Hotel at 15h00 for our first workshop. Here we will check camera settings, establish everyones skill levels and get help where we need to in order to have a wonderful weekend of photography. Photograph the sunset in the grounds of the hotel and then join up for dinner.

22 September:

An early morning shoot at the magnificent Cherio Gardens followed by breakfast. Meet at 11h00 to head to Haenertsburg for the annual Spring Market – shoot some street scenes, have a light lunch, go to Sequina Gardens for some photography and then onto a beautiful Waterfall for a shutter speed workshop.
Back to hotels, dinner on own and then night photography and painting with light.

23 September:

A relaxing morning and breakfast after a long day. Meet at an Organic Vegetable Farm for a workshop on Macro and Close up Photography at 09h30.
Delicious home made tea and scones to fuel us up before heading through the valleys, forests, rolling lawns, dirt roads – stopping as we shoot. We will return after photographing sunset and then dinner at a famous Old English Pub. Back to hotels.

24 September:

Up early to photograph the sun rising over the graveyard in the pine forests. Breakfast and check-out. Meet at 09h00 for a Lightroom Course and feedback on images from the weekend. A light lunch and depart for JHB at around 13h30.

The professional photographers are staying The Kuhestan Organic Farm.

There is a variety of all types of accommodation in Magoebaskloof and Haenertsburg that are all close to each other.

Its not a problem to stay in either of those areas and travel to the workshops.

We can easily book the accommodation for you for a booking fee of R500 – or you are welcome to book your own.


  • are offering shared transport from Johannesburg. Its by far the nicest way to do the tours and its good fun too!
  • The transport will depart from JHB at 09h30 on the 21st of September 2018. You will need to Uber/be dropped off at the meeting point as there is no parking available at the departure point. You will also need to be collected from there when we return at roughly 16h30 on the 24th of September.

The transport cost through-out the tour is additional and divided by the number of people that have booked. We calculate the cost of this a week before departure once everyone has confirmed and let everyone know. The cost is shared between the number of people using the service.

You are welcome to self drive.

Meeting Point and Ending Point for those who are Self-Driving:

Meet at 15h30 on the Patio of The Magoebaskloof Hotel on Friday 21 September 2018 for the first workshop – once you have checked in.

This Photo-Tour will end in Magoesbaskloof at 12h00 on Monday 24 September 2018.

Price and Payment Policy:

The full price of tour is R4950.00 (An average of R1250.00 per day for the photography instruction) A deposit of R2500.00 is required to secure you place and the balance is payable 2 weeks before departure. There is limited space so early booking is advisable.

A 10% discount is offered on the Photography Instruction to our existing clients, our past and present 52-Week Challengers and Registered Camera Club Members (PSSA – please supply details). This will reflect on your quote.  This discount does not apply while a promotional offer is running.


An Accredited South African Professional Photographer who will be on hand through out the weekend to assist you – no matter what skill level you are. A second Professional Photographer will join the tour once 10 people have confirmed.


Camera Gear, Accommodation, Meals, Transport, Entrance Fees and any expenses of a personal nature.

What to Bring:

In order to achieve the most from the Accredited South African Professional Photographer, a camera body with a manual mode function is recommended. However, all makes of cameras are welcome.

A tripod is essential (in the event that you do not own a tripod you are welcome to hire one from at a cost of R200.00 for the duration of the tour). Pre-booking is essential.

Head torches for the evenings.

What to Wear:

Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended. Wind breakers come in handy for photographing at dusk and dawn and pockets are useful. will communicate with you closer to the date of departure should there any be any inclement weather expected that would encourage additional items of clothing that are not typical.


Persons over the age of 18 are welcome to join as non-photographers at the same rate as photographers.


A certain level of fitness is required to enable you to transport your own camera bag, tripod and accessories. Reasonably short to medium distances are covered while photowalking. If during ‘free time’ you would like to partake in other adventures, additional fitness may be required.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations within 1 month of the tour: No refund will be issued.

Cancellations more than 1 month before the tour: 50% refund will be issued on any monies paid to date – less any costs incurred.

In the event that has to cancel the tour for any reason what-so-ever, a full refund will be issued immediately.
