The African Fabric and Fashion Photo-Workshop (Sat 8 Sept ’18)

Join us on this incredible Photographic Workshop as we walk through the Fashion District & Little Ethiopia

We begin in the Fashion District of downtown Jozi which began decades ago as the heart of the fabric industry. Today it is the home of the Fashion School where much of South Africa’s young talent begin their journey into the competitive world of Fashion.

A great opportunity to photograph colour and get inspired.

We will also explore the Nigerian & Congolese cloth shops nearby that contribute to the African Renaissance and visit the traditional South African Shweshwe shops.

The heart of Jozi is very colourful with fashions from across the African Continent … Maasai Shuka Tartans .. Nigerian Ankaras… Ghanaian Kentes … Venda candy stripes … Xhosa two tones … Ethiopian handwoven cottons … Nigerian Dashikis … Swahili Kangas … Mozambican Capulanas… Senegalese Damasks …Congolese wax prints … Shweshwe nostalgia and Tsonga luminous patterns

The tour concludes in Little Ethiopia with a traditional coffee ceremony and we will learn about :

  • Amharic language and culture…
  • Orthodox Christianity .. and Ethiopian Jewish roots
  • The impact of Ethiopian people in Johannesburg today
    Ethiopian food & spices
